Eva’s story.
Growing up by the northern end of the Bay of Bothnia in Sweden, I have since I was young longed to travel to exotic destinations seeking beauty, originality and different solutions how to have a good and rewarding life.
One of my driving passions is to try to make my every day objects, and surrounds as visually interesting and pleasing as possible. Even if you frame a nail you should try to do it with Pizzazz.
What is my job?
My Official title is artistic director of our company. This is mainly a useful title so I can stay away from doing boring paperwork .The essence of it is that I design most of the jewellery for the shops, and in conjunction with Simon do the buying overseas. Another important detail of my work is that I try to pass on as much of my knowledge as possible to our staff, so that they in their turn can assist you with any technical or esthetical problem you might have regarding jewellery design.
How do you design?
People and nature, mainly the sea, inspire me. When someone comes in with no jewellery on I see him or her like an empty canvas. Jewellery should not make a person feel uncomfortable, this is very important; it should be like a part of you, part of your personality. Colour and a beautiful piece of jewellery make a person beautiful. (+You got to have some positive attitude as well of course).
On the technical side
My main rule (the girls are sick of me saying it) is AVOID chafe /abrasion when you string a necklace. Chafe is evil.
By all means be a bit wacky, but don’t make this an excuse to execute sloppy work. It is all in the attention to detail. Also, if you are just starting out, you HAVE to experiment a bit, fly a bit, what might work fore some beads does not necessarily work for others.
Also some days (I admit they are not frequent) you are not MEANT to design. Go have a swim instead or sit down and reflect on the beauty & opportunities this world serves up.
In pursuit of visual splendour
Every day I am grateful for living in such a beautiful place (Noosa) and the love surrounding me. The good people I meet in my travels and in my every day life. In carrying out this we try to create a beautiful and inspiring environment for you to seek out and discover. We hope that you can find some pieces to surround yourself with in your everyday life-to hopefully make it even better and more stimulating.
It was funny, the other day I had a couple in who first met me in our first little shop in 1990. This was in Hasting Street in our cute littler shop “Africa”. One of the main things they remembered was “my” little rose-man, who sold me roses every week- we still have him. And now we have a fantastic “gardener” who looks after (and designed) our garden.
We all have a different style.
I design mainly ethnic or ethnic inspired jewellery and I am pretty good at it.
Because my time is limited (24h/day), my “gift” to you is the assistance that my girls provide in the shop. They are all very talented and skilled in their job and beautiful. They are my family. If you have any queries or design problems, they will help you out.
Welcome to Timbuktu to Kathmandu. Eva
